I have been informed of the planned killings of wolves in Oesterdalen in Hedmark, Norway, and hereby ask you all to reconsider this decision. As Oesterdalen houses two of the three existing Norwegian wolf packs, Norway has a international responsibility to manage its wildlife according to ratified treaties. The Berne Convention has a threefold objective: * to conserve wild flora and fauna and their natural habitats; * to promote co-operation among states; * to give particular emphasis to endangered and vulnerable species, including endangered and vulnerable migratory species. It is clear to me that this objective will be violated by the announced killings of wolves in Hedmark. Even more disturbing is the fact that you are ignoring the protests launched by your neighbouring Swedish government agencies dealing with wolf management. According to the Berne Convention, one should call for co-operation between states; but it seems that Norway, on this issue, will hear of no such thing. If the killings are carried out, Norway will be disregarding the fact that the Scandinavian wolf population is still very fragile, and will be refusing to co-operate with a neighbouring state who wants a genetically vigorous wolf population. I object to the Norwegian government's actions against this vulnerable species. The Norwegian wolf belongs to your vast forests, and the Norwegian government should take measures to protect it for future generations to come. Yours sincerely,
