This page was put up to honor one of the greatest
rock bands ever. Ever since the start back in the mid-70`s, 38 Special
has delivered some of the best music to ever be recorded. For those of
you who have had the pleasure of seeing them alive on stage, you know that
we're talking premiere league here! I think it's fascinating to know that
the band has been around almost as long as I have, and even though there
has been some changes in the line-up over the years, you will always find
that 38 Special is as solid as a rock!
I can't remember exactly what got me hooked
on their music, or when this happened. All I know is that for me, 38 Special
has "always" been around. I like their early "honkey tonk" music just as
much as their brilliant 80`s arena rock. In 1997 the guys released yet
another stunning album called "Resolution" on the
Razor & Tie label, and their most recent effort is a live album
called "Live at Sturgis" - which was also released on DVD by CMC
International.
1997 was a great year for me. Not only did we
get a brand new 38 Special album, but for the first time in my life I was
able to actually see the band on stage. It was a long trip for me coming
from Norway, but it was definitely worth it! For two nights in a row, 38
Special put out a splendid set of songs at Summerfest in Milwaukee, WI,
and a dream had come true. One year later I went back to the US, and saw
the band perform live right outside of Detroit, Michigan. I was attending
the show with two other 38 Special maniacs, and the most awesome thing
happened when one of them gave me a backstage pass. I had a brief talk
with Don, Larry and Danny. So, in 1999 I was back again! I saw 38 Special
perform at the same place as I saw them for the first time two years earlier.
Another fantastic show. So I've seen them four times now, and still counting!
I believe the first 38 Special album I bought
was "Special Forces" from 1983. This album is my favorite 38 Special
album to this date, but I like all their albums very much. The band has
always been described as a "southern" band, and take it for what it's worth,
but I have never been a big fan of southern music! I don't even like Lynyrd
Skynyrd that much, but I guess 38 Special have so much more in them than
being just "another southern band", if you know what I mean. For those
of you who have never had the pleasure of hearing 38 Special's music, I
will describe them as a energic rock act, playing songs that varies from
hard guitar driven rock`n`roll, to memorable lovesong ballads.
Their biggest hit, "Second Chance" from 1988, is a ballad by the way.
