CASSETTES OR MODULES HANGING UNDER THE PLATFORM.

In some cases, it might be necessary to install modules or cassettes under the platform. This is not plain sailing, since the no cranes can reach this area. The traditional way of solving this problem has up till now been to try and install the module in "handy size" bits and pieces by using the platform crane and "dragging" / slinging the equipment in under the platform. This, off course, constitutes a risky and long lasting operation with a lot of offshore man hours and very low productivity. It is therefore easy to agree that a complete onshore module construction and one-unit installation is more preferable. 

 The Heidrun platform with the position of the planned 700 ton hanging module. This case study demonstrates how a near 700 ton module may be installed under the platform by using the PEF lifting principles.

The module in position on a barge before lift off. The module is simply put on the SEACO system on a barge, which is moored between the platform legs. ( The total module weight and size in this case was too much for a supply vessel.)

Rendering of the proposed lifting- and skid arrangement.  The module and platform is fitted with attachments for the load transfer and lifting gear, so that the module may be elevated after load transfer.  On this picture, we show the combination of the lifting system and load transfer system combined in the machines attached to the module.
