BOOKSHELF CASSETTES.

On existing platforms  On prepared platforms  On new platforms  Advantages  Previous page

This installation method for cassettes and modules is one of the most efficient low cost ways of increasing the capacity of an existing platform.

TRC has studied two main scenarios; sequential platform development and platform add-ons.

Bookshelf cassettes on existing hot platforms.

Artist impression of a module fitted to a platform by a pair of booshelf brackets. For the existing platform, the add-on is made easy simply by loading cassettes to book-shelves fitted to the platform outside. This will off course require modifications to the existing platform or module structure. To look at the GAM Case study, press : Bookshelf

Bookshelf cassettes on prepared platforms.

Artist impression of a 600 ton module lifted up by using a temporary lift- and skid rig. This wellhead platform was to a certain extent prepared for the later installation of an additional module. The preparation was made as two brackets braced up to the upper truss connection with the platform leg extension on the weather deck. The planned module weight was 500 ton.

Later, it was planned to install a module with an estimated weight of some 600 ton. In addition, one anticipated that the installation of this module had to take while a drilling rig was operating partially over the platform.

TRC proposed a new module geometry, and installation method as shown on the artist impression.

Cassettes for new platform designs from TRC

Artist impression of our new light platform type fitted with hanging cassettes instead of modules. Since you never know for sure what the reservoir contains before it has been emptied, the project risk will be reduced and the profit increased by designing the platform for a sequential development scenario.

This particular platform design is one of a series of platforms designed by TRC in order to reduce investment cost, make stepwise development really economical, and at the same time reduce cost of maintenance and final de-commissioning. These platforms may in fact also be moved around to other sites.

Artist impression of the light platform topsides. This patented platform design takes advantage of 100% flexibility in topsides cassette change-out. On the picture, you can see that the platform is actually designed like a crane standing on the sea bed. The heavy lift equipment is always present.  The picture shows the fully developed platform with water treatment cassettes, 3 gas turbine driven injection cassettes and a gas turbine driven gas lift cassette. In addition a temporary workshop / LQ cassette has been installed during the hook-up period.

The platform is a water injection / gas lift platform with bridge connection to a production platform. The savings in structural steel, installation cost, project execution time etc. reduces the cost with 40% compared to a traditional platform design. The investment profile , hence the NPV of the project will be strongly effected by this.

Artist impression of a gravity base concrete platform fitted with hanging cassettes. You can even use the principles on a GBS type of platform.

Artist rendering of a hybrid concrete / steel platform with hanging cassettes. This platform was planned for a stepwise development by using the bookshelf principle and cassettes. On the picture, one can see how the new cassette is lifted up and supported by the truss system fabricated as part of the platform topsides.

Artist impression of a fully integrated topsides with compartments for fully developed system cassettes. This fully integrated topsides design also was made to accept stepwise development. Notice the fully developed system deck being lifted from the vessel and up into the topsides. This platform follow the patented IPEF design and fabrication method. (Look under platform topsides design.)

Advantages:

Easy installation with a minimum of disturbances
Makes the project more flexible during fabrication and installation
Makes the platform more flexible in terms of capacity increase, change-out, re-vamping, maintenance etc.
Low cost installation
Reduced project risk
Stepwise development with improved cash flow and NPV

Take a look at some of the optimized new platform designs from TRC that take full advantage of this design strategy.
