Life boat platforms installation.

From time to time, the platform crew has to be increased. This may lead to an increase in required life boat capacity. In some cases new lifeboats and new lifeboat platforms have to be installed.

The life boat platforms are often positioned on the cellar deck level, and in areas not covered by the platform cranes, like in front of the living quarters etc.

Using the PEF installation method, complete lifeboat platforms with lifeboats may be fitted without using the platform cranes.

This picture demonstrates the problem: A new life boat deck shall be installed in front of the living quarters close to the landing of the temporary accommodation platform. The area is out of the reach of the platform cranes, is situated under the helicopter deck area and, and off course, the accommodation rig is in the way.

The life boat deck ready for load transfer. The sea state during transfer, even if it looks calm on the picture, was swell from aft with a corresponding max heave of some 2 meters.

Lifting a life boat deck with strand jacks

The deck after transfer and during lifting operation. Eight single strand lifting jacks were used. Two of them may be seen on the platform truss extension. The accommodation rig is still in position close by.

As can be seen from the picture, lifting objects very close- or under the platform is not a problem.
