Santa Cruz is the capital of Tenerife with some 260,000 inhabitants. The city is often visited by mountaineers, because one has to visit the Teide office to get the permit to walk to the summit of Teide. The Plaza de Espaņa (pictured above) is easy to find in the centre of the city and from here most attractions are within walking distance. Below the church Nuestra Seņora de la Concepcion (1502), partly rebuilt after a fire in 1600. The church is located on the site where the battle between Nelson and the Spanish people took place; it was in this battle that Nelson lost an arm.

The Parque Municipal Garcia Sambria is said to be one of Europes most beautiful parks (5 next images from the park). In the middle of the park is a big fountain with a monument of the local hero Garcia Sambria.
