About Tenerife
Puerto de la Cruz
Los Gigantes - Costa del Silencio and Las Galletas - Loro Parque Forum - Photos - Virtual Tour - Tenerife Directory Puerto de la Cruz is the 2nd largest town in Tenerife after the capital Santa Cruz. The town has some 60,000 inhabitants plus about the same number of hotel rooms! Well ok 30,000. It has two natural beaches made of black volcanic sand, the beaches have flags that indicate when it is safe to swim, red flags are flown whenever it is considered unsafe but that doesn’t mean that people don’t swim at those times, some people swimming out more than 50 m which indeed seems somewhat risky. The beaches have moles to make them safer and about 100 m from the beach there are large rocks deposited in the sea to make it safer to swim. The wonderful rollers and waves benefit the surfers (in the old fashioned meaning of the word). Some days the ocean was really wild which caused the closure of the beaches. (Pictures of the waves below). All in all Puerto de la Cruz is a town with far less tourist activity than Playa de las Americas and Los Cristianos. The main attraction of Puerto de la Cruz is the Loro Parque, which brings tourists from the south by the coachload as well as visitors from all over the world. Puerto de la Cruz AccommodationPuerto de la Cruz accommodation is not so dominated by the need to serve the tourist industry as in the south; apartments in Puerto de la Cruz are used by the local people as homes as well as by people requiring holiday accommodation in Puerto de la Cruz. Both are available by the thousand in many different sizes and price ranges, depending upon age, position, views etc. Puerto de la Cruz hotels vary from the older, smaller original buildings to the more modern larger scale edifices geared to package holiday tourism. My favourite Puerto de la Cruz hotels are situated right on the beachfront giving wonderful unobstructed panoramic views of the harbour and sea; for those that don’t like hotels but prefer to ‘do their own thing’ there are apartments in Puerto de la Cruz that offer the same type of views. Whichever type of holiday accommodation you prefer there is a wide and varied selection available in a multitude of styles and prices collectively known as Puerto de la Cruz accommodation. Properties in Puerto de la CruzPuerto de la Cruz properties have become very popular with holiday-makers wishing to have their own little place in the sun; of course finding the right property in Puerto de la Cruz is vitally important and to this end the assistance of qualified Puerto de la Cruz estate agents can be of enormous value, especially taking into consideration the different laws in Spain and of course the language. Many Puerto de la Cruz estate agents speak several different languages in order to offer their services to the variety of nationalities looking for that special Puerto de la Cruz property to become their home from home in the sun. Puerto de la Cruz properties come in a huge variety of sizes, prices and standards; if one is considering using a property in Puerto de la Cruz for both a holiday home and letting to other holiday-makers then position as in any property purchase is vitally important. One’s Puerto de la Cruz estate agent can advise on the type of property and location to suit one’s needs as well as one’s pocket. If by now you’ve made the decision and taken the plunge to join the thousands of other foreigners owning properties in Puerto de la Cruz it only remains for me to say welcome on behalf of us all and I hope that you get many years of enjoyment from your Puerto de la Cruz property.
