Golfing in Tenerife

Adeje Golf Course, TenerifeMillionaire’s golf, we’ve all heard the term and for those players from busy courses fighting for respectable tee times, imagine this; it’s a lovely bright summer morning the sun is shining, you know it’s not likely to rain, (it doesn’t normally rain between April and October) and you decide that you’d like to take some time off and have a round of golf. After ringing your regular golfing partners, who are all happy to play truant as well, you decide which of the seven championship courses you’d like to tackle today and then agree to meet at the course, after paying green fees you decide a coffee is in order before playing and the receptionist tells you that you can play whenever you’re ready. Sounds idyllic? Yes but this is the norm for golf in Tenerife in the summer, when all our fellow Europeans can play (providing that there are no summer storms) in their home countries we are left with the courses all to ourselves.

However, as soon as it starts to get cold and wet and the days are short the ‘swallows’ pack up their clubs and head for some golf in Tenerife, where the weather is warm all year round, there’s very little rain, thunder and lightning are rare and there is a selection of championship golf courses to enjoy. Suddenly we need to reserve our tee times and arrange things in advance because the news is out; golf in Tenerife is great, in the winter when back home they’re playing on temporary greens swaddled in layers of ‘thermals’, trying to stop the rain dripping down their necks and struggling to keep the grips dry, everyone in Tenerife is playing in shorts and polo shirts.Adeje Golf and view on another island - La Gomera

Golf property in Tenerife has also become very popular, (go to : www.tenerife-golf-property.co.uk) with many visitors playing courses flanked by villas and apartments it doesn’t take long for the wheels to start turning and thoughts of a place in the sun right on a golf course become possibilities or even probabilities. Owning a golf property in Tenerife is not difficult and can even help to finance itself by being rented out to other golfers wishing to enjoy the wonderful climate and golf facilities here on the island. At around four hours flying from mainland Europe and the UK it’s the nearest place with virtually guaranteed sunshine in the winter in which to enjoy your golf.

Coming to Tenerife in the winter without a golfing partner presents no problem as most courses will fill their available tee times and are happy to fit in individuals to make up four-balls wherever possible. One can be teamed up with fellow golfers from all over Europe; many a mixed nationality friendship has started on the golf course in this way. Enjoy your golf in Tenerife, maybe we’ll meet on the first tee one day.
