For quite a few years now I have used a Canadian music computer program called; Band-in-a-Box. I use it both as a tool to accompany myself, but also to arrange songs. I prefer
this program to sequencers, as it varies the accompaniment slightly each
time, like real (jazz) musicians would.

I use a
Laptop (for portability), and in order to get realistic instrumental
sounds, I do not use the internal soundcard. Instead I connect to
outside equipment via the USB ports.
The main
instruments go trough my first Roland SC-8820 and VX-5050 sound modules
and then in stereo to my PA.
The bass
line goes, via a second Roland SC-8820 sound module, directly to it's own
Galien-Krueger bass amp.
The
chords from Band-in-a-Box
are outputted in MIDI to a TC Helicon VoiceWorks. It can add up to 4
voices each, either in harmony or unison, to my own voice. This is
outputted into stereo.
In order to make this
all work I use MS Windows 98SE's MIDI-mapper.
This
function is not found in Windows 2000, nor in Windows
XP! | |||

A few years ago I collaborated with Canadian Jacques Constantineau. He wrote catchy tunes and sometimes even very beautiful tunes. I usually added some chords, beautified bass lines and every now and then added musical backgrounds. I have published a sample, the catchy Efin le Printemps (Spring at Last), just double click on the filename and it will start playing. I feel that many of his songs deserve nice lyrics, so if you feel that you (or someone you know) can write lyrics, let’s hear from you. The tune is added as a WMA-file, just click on the title to down load. Hope you like it!

For more
downloads and questions and answers on BiaB please visit: the Band-In-A-Box File Sharing
Group, to which I am a
contributor. There are many members who regularly post new songs and
styles. 28 May 03 a "paper" on reharmonization, written by me, was published here (Msg 4164). So please visit the BiaB FSG to check it out.
Lately this group has changed somewhat, mostly to the fact that they are not any longer allowed to publish "standards" etc. I have still contact with some of the members of the group and we exchange some files between ourselves. Here you can learn and save time, all at the same time!
