The Bones Apart Schoolshow
The goal of this concert programme is to tell the story of our instruments and how they work in different ensembles in a fun and accessible way through a series of short musical sketches. The programme is flexible, musically varied, and visually entertaining. There is also scope for audience participation where appropriate.
Fanfare from "Willhem Tell"
"Locus Iste" - in which Carol demonstrates the alto trombone, showing some of the different parts of the trombone family.
We play a fanfare on horsepipes, showing that allyou need is some tubing to make a sound. Camilla plays one which is twice the length of the others, showing the difference in sound, and we let some of the children hold the pipes while we play. They can then feel the vibrations - which make the (rather unfortunate!) sound.
Camilla Plays the bass sackbut, which looks a bit like this:

She talks about the advantages of having a valve instead of the very long slide. She shows how the bass trombone can make very low notes using the valves, wich looks a bit like this:

Becky plays the euphonium, wich looks a bit like this:

Carol and Becky play a scale together, showing that the trombone and euphonium have the same lenght of tubing, the instruments just look very different.
Carol plays the didgeridoo, wich is a wind instrument from Australia and lokks like this:

She talks about how she does it, and also how she can breath out for that long. she actually cheats by doing something called circular breathing! We have a competition between Carol and one of the teachers blowing through a straw into a glass of water to see who can keep it up for the longest, while the rest of us play "Mr Sandman". Carol always wins because she's cheating.
We show other effects which makes the trombone more interesting to listen to, like the mutes, flutter tonguing and multiphonics.
Being devoted to the performance of live music in the community, we feel our educational schoolshow is a true inspiration for the musicians of tomorrow!
