The Tropical Bird Society Stavanger og Omegn was established May 30th, 1953. There are today about 50 members. The Society is a member of NTL- Norske Tropefuglforeningers Landsforbund

The Tropical Bird Society was established so that people who keep tropical birds (on a hobby-basis), could join together in a field of common interest. Several times a year we get visits from well-known bird-keepers, who share their experience with us. The most popular tropical birds in SFK are Canaries, Budgie birds, various Finches and Parrakeets. Some members also have larger Parrakeets and Parrots. The Society hold their meetings once a month, usually the last Monday of the month - except for June, July and December. Members will receive letter of invitation, including subject, when and where the meetings will be arranged.

Most of our members tag their birds. In addition, many keep a pedigree. This is done in order to keep track of the birds age, their mutation of colour and to avoid inbreeding. If you order rings through SFK, you can also receive our printed pedigrees.

Every year we arrange an exhibition, where our members can show off their birds. This is a good opportunity to visualize our hobby. Last year (2000), SFK and Tropefuglklubben Rogaland
arranged a national exhibition in Stavanger, see photographs. SFK has supported the education of own judges, who are often being used in Norway.

As a member, you will receive the magazine Norsk Tropefuglhobby quarterly. This magazine contains various articles about tropical birds, and also buying/selling advertisements throughout the country.
