| In the
summer of 1987 Kenneth and Ronny met Gylve for the very first time. Gylve had just moved
into the neighborhood where the Sorkness brothers have their summer house. This young
"lad" had the same taste in music as these two "metal-heads", and soon
found out that they were tuned into the same frequency. Gylve had enough music equipment
to start a band, and he also had plans to start a band for a long time. After a while they
started the band Valhall.
In the spring of 1988 they borrowed a ministudio from Frank Wanberg, and recorded their
first demo with the title "Castle of death". The music style was a kind of
thrash metal with black metal sound.
After a couple of months they recruited Brede Jensen on guitar, also a childhood friend,
and they continued to rehearse in Gylves basement. A year later they chose to record
another demo. This demo was in a hardcore/funcore style. It was entitled
"Amalgamation", and this is the demo which they sold most of. Everybody was
happy, but one day Gylve gave them the message that he would leave Valhall, to concentrate
on Darkthrone. Gylve was then replaced by a guy named Thomas Berglie in 1989. After
playing with Thomas for 6 months they released a new demo. Since the songs were made when
Gylve was in the band, they had him to play on 3 of the 4 songs on "Trauma".
After they played a spontaneous concert in February 1991, which was recorded. They chose
to release the demo with the "brilliant" title "Live" (WOW!).
In March 1991 their last demo "Pagan token" was released. After this a very
turbulent period regarding band members started. In May 91 Thomas left the band.
Erik Lancelot, who currently plays with "Ulver", replaced him. In the spring of
92 Erik left the band, and they were joined by K. J. Lervåg. In this period nothing
much happened with the band. When Robin left in the fall of 92 and K. J. chose to
move back to his hometown Ålesund, everything stood still in Valhall. Left alone were
Ronny, Kenneth and Brede. Kenneth continued making music, but without a drummer and a lead
guitarist the future didnt seem to be very bright. But in the spring of 93
Gribb called and asked if he could join Valhall again, and things got started. The summer
of 93 was used to rehearse new songs, and testing lead guitarists.
When Brede stopped showing up at the rehearsals. It didnt take much time before Geir
Kolden was recruited on rhythm guitar. He joined the band in August 93. After a
short while Frode Malm was recruited on lead guitar. In November 93 they went into
studio for the first time, to contribute on a sampler called "The Reincarnation of
the Sun". After that they went into studio two more times, to recorded material for
their first full length CD. After "Moonstoned" Frode was given the boot, and was
replaced by Robin Olsen, who also played synth on "Moonstoned". The debut album
was released in February 1995.
Now they started to work on material to a new album, and went into studio in March/April
1996. Frank Wanberg joined the band on synth/organ. The CD "Heading for Mars"
was released in 1997. Then in the summer Geir left the band and Frank was our new man on
lead guitar and since then we have worked on the new album.
