Skien Baptist church have selected 3 mission project with special focus. The
projects are realized in cooperation with The Baptist union of Norway
Pastor school in
Bondo (Kongo)
The Baptists in the Bas-Uele province i Kongo counts approx. 25.000
baptized members in over 3000 churches. There are only 50 educated pastors, but the
churches expands.
The Pastor school in Bondo have for time being about 20 students. Many
wish to study, but the school has not the capacity.
Due to the civil war the school are short of most of what a school needs;
Books, inventory and equipments for the office. The number of students could
decrease if the boarding school had more capacity. The school are
dependent of external support and about 90 % of the budget are gifts from
Norway. To continue the church growth and evangelizing, they need spiritual guides
and educated pastors.
Evangelist in Vietnam
Imagine to be an evangelist and experience that people except Jesus
Christ as their savior, becomes baptized and joins the local church... Are
there anything greater?
It's the fewest of us who have the fortune to participate
in such a service - unfortunately. We can now be a part of an
evangelist i South-Vietnam. By supporting 4 churches with salary to
evangelists and other help in church work. These evangelists will work in
a certain distains from their home church and try to establish new churches. The people of Vietnam are open for the gospel. The evangelists are
poor, and the local churches can't engage them full time. With externally
support the evangelists can work full time spreading the gospel.
Nordkapp, the worlds
northernmost Baptist church
As early as before the first world war the Baptists began to work
in Honningsvåg. A fisher mans home have been build two times. The first
were destroyed during the second world war. Today's Baptist church was
build as a fisher mans home in 1956.
With the fisher mans home as a starting point, the
Baptists has been spreading the gospel in Honningsvåg, and many people have
heard the gospel of Jesus Christ. In particular the work with the
children has been important. In 1996 the evangelist Alf Egil Olsen moved to
Honningsvåg.
He managed establish good contact with the local people. Autumn 1997
the Nordkapp Baptist church was founded, with 20 members.
When he came to Honningsvåg there were only four-five Baptists, but by January
1999 there were over 30 members in the church. The church which characterizes it self as a praying church, began autumn 1999 disciple
training school together with "Ungdom i Oppdrag". |
