Text: (10,900 feet) we passed into a weird world hard to imagine. The ground was like an immense sponge. Yet life flourished here. I saw the sun only once, and then briefly, when I stood at the base of the great glacier that caps the fabled Mountains of the Moon.

Predator with poison in its pincers. 16 species in Norway, 3000 in the World. Rearly seen because of its size and habitat.

Measures: 2-3 cm.
Found: Storhaug, Oslo
Date: September 7, 2007
Kingdom: Lichens
Lichens are symbiotic associations of a fungus (the mycobiont) with a photosynthetic partner (the photobiont also known as the phycobiont) that can produce food for the lichen from sunlight.
