Roots - The Gift

A story of friendship, courage and Christmas

Christmas Eve 1775. For the celebrants at Parker Plantation, it's a time of joy and giving. For enslaved friends Fiddler and Kunta Kinte, it's a chance to give to other slaves the most precious gift of all: Freedom.

The Roots saga expands in a holiday-themed drama based on characters from Alex Haley's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel. Louis Gosset, Jr. reprises the role of resourceful American-born slave Fiddler. LeVar Burton again plays Kunta Kinte, the Mandinka warrior who hopes someday to return home to Africa.

Inspired by the bravery of a murdered "free man of color" (Avery Brooks), Kunta and Fiddler make a perilous break for freedom, leading a caravan of desperate runaways through a network of safe havens to a getaway boat. They load the runaways into the boat... and discover there's room enough for one more passenger. A painful choice must be made. A Mandinka warrior can never abandon his friend. (94 minutes)

Texas Guns:

Some men took money... Some men took lives... These men took both.

The West has never been wilder or more savage than in this epic adventure starring Willie Nelson as John Henry Lee, an oldtime badman with one thing on his mind, robbing one more Texas train. Richard Widmark plays the Texas Ranger who once put him in jail for twenty years and now wants more than anything to do it again.

Their duel is complicated by the arrival of a gang of young gunslingers, led by Shaun Cassidy, who will stop at nothing to take John Henry's stolen gold, his reputation, and, if they have to, his life as well.

An all-star supporting cast, featuring Royal Dano, Chuck Connors, Kevin McCarthy, Dub Taylor, brings gritty authenticity to every role.

The twists of plot and fortune end at the inevitable climax, a white-knuckle showdown in the dusty street of a Western town where the only things that count are fierce speed, hot lead, and who's standing when the shooting's over.
