Welcome to Falside Smiddy, an enchanting and comfortable cottage in the rural surroundings of St. Andrews, Scotland, the home of golf and it's famous university, offering Bed and Breakfast accommodation of a high standard to the tourist, golf enthusiast, historian or ornithologist.

Falside Smiddy is located at Boarhills between historic St. Andrews and the picturesque fishing village of Crail. St Andrews is 10 minutes by road and Edinburgh can be reached within a little over an hour by road or train. Dundee is 30 minutes away by road. One hour's driving takes you into the heart of the Highlands.

Originally the local blacksmiths workshop, Falside Smiddy was restored from a near derelict state by it's present owners Keith and Rosie Birkinshaw. The Smiddy is situated in the peaceful countryside above St. Andrews and is close to the sea with beautiful beaches within walking distance.

Bed and Breakfast facilities consist of two twin rooms with bathrooms and a shared sitting room, in pleasing country style. A cot and a folding bed is available for children, if required. Well behaved dogs are welcome.

Breakfast is a memorable feast with free range eggs from our own chickens, homemade bread, marmalade and jams.

Guests are invited to relax in the garden which surrounds the house. We do not allow smoking in the house.

Falside Smiddy B&B - LoungeThere are many local restaurants to choose from. Dinner is available by prior arrangment.

Rosie is a Cordon Bleu cook and will be pleased to prepare it.

Special diets and vegetarian meals are also available. Some vegetables are grown organically in the garden.

Falside Smiddy B&B - Crail HarbourLeisure

Cyclists and walkers can enjoy the the extensive Coastal Path. The Picturesque East Neuk coastal villages give a pleasant insight into rural Scotland, the picture on the right depicts Crail Harbour.

Painters will find plenty of inspiration here. The world famous nesting place for sea birds The Isle of May is close by offering sights of Puffins, Razorbills, Gannets, Kittiwakes and Guillemots.

Falside Smiddy is a good base for golf with the famous St. Andrews Old Course nearby along with Kingsbarns, St. Andrews Bay and a host of other highly rated courses. Falside Smiddy is ideally suited for visitors or for parents visiting students at St. Andrews university, the oldest university in Scotland.

 

How to find us

Falside Smiddy B&B - MapFalside Smiddy is located at Boarhills between St. Andrews and Crail. Drive north from Edinburgh on the M90 towards Perth. Take the A91 to St. Andrews and continue 5-10 minutes along the A917 to Crail. Do not go left into Boarhills.  Falside Smiddy is on the left immediately after the hump backed bridge.

Alternatively take the train to Leuchers Station and a taxi from there. We can arrange to collect rail passengers.

£35 per night for one person. £56 per night for two persons. Discounts given for stays of more than three nights.
