a-ha are a Norwegian rock group, who burst onto the world music scene in 1985 with their first single Take On Me. It reached number one in nine countries and number two in the UK. Take On Me also featured a now famous, ground-breaking, half-animated video, which contributed to the song's success. The video caught people's attention, and the combination of a very catchy song, and award winning video, made Take on me probably the best song/video combination ever, and made Morten, Mags and Pal world-famous. Paul and Magne (Mags) had been playing together from the age of ten in their native town of Manglerud, a suburb of Oslo, forming a number of different bands including Spider Empire, Soldier Blue, and Bridges, which lead to their first trip to London seeking an international recording contract, they returned to Norway $2000 (pounds) poorer. After meeting Morten Harket they found the perfect pop combination and set about selling their image to the international market once again. - a-ha have so far
