My name is Carin Lyrholm, I live in Sweden and I bought my first Podenco Ibicenco (Ibizan Hound) in 1983. She was a lovely, white lady from the breeder Annika Kroon in Sweden. I had a lot of fun with my beautiful Sinsline Callisto for nine years until she got a tumour in her nose and I had to put her to sleep in 1992.

When Callisto was three years old she had a litter of 7 puppies. The father was Sin's Golden Excelsior and I kept a female from this litter. Her name was Callenco's Adorable Agility. She was also beautiful but since her father was rough and her mother was smooth, "Agge" became semi haired. She also had rather soft ears. Well, she was very well built, a fantastic mover and had a wonderful temperament so I decided to have a litter from her despite of the coat and the ears.

I bred "Agge" to her own uncle, Sinsline Cervantes and she had a litter of 10. This was in 1989 and I kept the excellent female Callenco's Brilliant Baccara "Brillan". Unfortunately this was my last litter when it's very difficult to be a breeder of Podencos. It's a very rare breed and it's common that one can't sell the puppies. To have five, six or seven 7-months old "puppies" left is not easy. You have to teach them to go in a leash, go by car and train them for their future life which is hard enough with just one individual. That's why I decided to stop breeding Podencos and I also transfered my kennel prefix, "Callenco's" to my daughter Caroline Appelfeldt.
My husband and I breed Belgian Shepherd / Groenendaels with the kennel prefix "A-Te-Ell's" but it's nice to have one dog of a breed who are just the opposite from the Belgians, so....

After one year without a Podenco in the house I bought a new female in 1993, this time from England. Her name was Benjique Callenco Chiquita but she was never bred from. She was just a pet and she died in January 2005.
