Checkback (1x-1y-1NT)
Checkback is a kind of Stayman used after rebid of 1NT (12-14). 2
is Checkback and show at least invitational strength. It ask opener to show
strength and distribution. This means that other responses are changing after 1x - 1y - 1NT.
· All natural bids at the 2-level (except 2
and reverse bids) are non forcing. Reverse bids show an unbalanced hand and is
game forcing. viser ikke krav, unntatt reversemeldinger som er Game forcing og viser en skjev hand.
· 2NT is invitational in Club, and show long clubsuit after 1

Response to Check-Back

we don't use Checkback with Woody system. See further biddings after 1

Check-Back is also on when responder has opened with pass. Now 2
is always invitational.
Check-Back is also on when opponents interfere in these positions:
1x - (1y) - 1z - (Pass)
1NT
1x - (Pass) - 1y - (Dobl)
1NT
But not in these positions.
1x - (Dobl) - 1y - Pass
1NT ; Since responder will pass with a balanced hand and 10+
1x - (Pass) - 1y - (1z)
1NT ; Since we use supportdoubles. and cue is forcing.
General rules:
· 2
: Denies 4 card
major or 3 card support in responders major suit. Minimum.
· 2 in responders major suit: 3 card support. Minimum.
· 2 in unbid major: Normally 4 cards. Minimum..
· 2NT: Maximum. 4333 with 4 card in the opening suit. Maximum.
· 3

Diamonds after 1

Further bids from the responder:
When the opener has shown a minimum hand, a suit at the 2-level show
invitational strength and may be passed or corrected to a better contract. 2NT
is also invitational and not forcing. All bids at the 3-level are game forcing.
When the opener has shown Maximum, we shall at least bid game, so any bids from
responder is forcing except if responder bids game, of course.

Check-Back

show a maximum. Maximum is (13)14-15.

3
after 2NT shows
either a week hand the responder wants to play 3 in a suit, or slaminvitational
were one suit is club With the weak hand, the responder pass or correct to a
suit not higher than the response suit.
Example
1
- 1![]()
2N - 3![]()
3
- 3
:
Weak hand with 5-4(5)
in majors.
3
: weak hand with
5+Spade.
3N : Slaminvitational with 4 Spade and 5+Clubs.
3. suit forcing:
If the opener bids a new suit (not reverse) as his second bid, this bid is round
forcing. The opener may have at least 19 HCP, and only if the response hand
doesn't have a positive hand (3-5 and no good fit) may he pass. We use this
method to get better control of the bidding, and we don't have to jump with a
5-4 hand.
Reverse bids:
A reverse bid shows at least 16+HCP, but with 3 card support in responders
major, or many cards in the openers two suits, you may compensate the honour
strength. Especially with 6-5 hands, you don't promisse extra strength if you
rebid the reverse suit.
Responses to reverse bids is that 2NT if artificial game forcing, while 4th suit
is asking for stopper with interest for 3NT. Only negative bids are the response
suit at lowest level or the opening suit at lowest level. Support of the reverse
bids are invitational.
Example:
1
- 1![]()
2
- 2
:
To play. (5)6 cards in Spade2.
- 2NT: Artificial Game forcing.
- 3
: To play with 2+clubs.
- 3
: Ask for stoppers.
Interest for 3NT. --> 3
: 6-5.
Don't promise more than opening strength.
- 3
: Invitational with
4+Hearts.
- 3
: Invitational with
6+Spades.
- 3NT: To play. No support in openers 2 bid suits.
Jump reverse:
This is game forcing, even you may stop at the 4-level if responder has a bad
hand. The responder show a minimumhand by either supporting the opening suit or
jump to 3NT.
Example:
1
- 1![]()
2
- 2NT: Ask pd to
show more of hand.
3
: Minimum.
Normaly at least 2 card support.
3
: Ask opener to
bid 3NT with diamond stopper.
3
: Normaly 6+ in
Hearts.
3
: Slaminvitational
in Spades.
3NT: Minimumshand with Diamond stopper.
4
: Slaminvitational.
Jump to 3 in opening suit:
This bid is not forcing, but show a good 6 card suit and 16-17(18) HCP. If you
have a very good hand, you better reverse, or bid a new suit at 2-level even
with just 3(2) card.
After jump in opening suit the responder pass with minimum, and other bids are
game forcing.
Example:
1
- 1![]()
3
- 3
: Natural.
At least 4-4. Normaly longer diamond suit, because with 5+ heart the responder
should bid 3
.
3
: 5+Hearts. Game forcing.
3
: Ask for stopper for 3NT.
3NT: To play.
4
: Slaminvitational.
4
/4
: Splinter.
4
: To play.
4th suit game forcing:
This convention has a very important function in our syste,. 4th suit is game
forcing and is a very important tool to search for possible slam. 4th suit is
game forcing, but the responses are different after which position 4th suit is
bid:
4th suit at 1-level (1
- 1
- 1
- 1
)
As earlier described, the 1
response show
6+Diamonds or a GF hand. Therefore 1
in this position is gameforcing and don't promise a spade suit. Opener will
support spade with 4 card support.
4th suit at 2-level.
- Artificial game forcing, opener
show distribution first. Support of 4th suit shows support in 4th suit, or
nothing else to bid.
- 2NT is Balanced og hold in den 4th suit .
4th suit at 3-level.
- Game forcing and asks for stopper.
NB! NB!
If 4th suit is on 3-level, 2NT i game forcing and ask partner to show
distribution.
Example:
1
- 1![]()
2
- 2N :
Artificial game forcing. Ask partner to show distributions.
3
: Ask for stopper.
