The Naomi J. was built in Yugoslavia and launched as the "Pied Piper" in Sweden in 1964. Four or five of these yachts were sold new in Sweden.
Her original rig was probably a masthead sloop. In the late seventies or early eighties she was altered to cutter rig. The coachroof has also been altered during her career and her name was changed to "Maria Laura".
The rig was completely redesigned by Owen Morgan in 1994. This included lengthening the mast, restepping it further aft, building a longer bowsprit and upgrading winches, blocks and running and standing rigging. She has also had a complete new suit of sails.
The Naomi J. originally had a 6hp Volvo Penta MD1 diesel supplied in 1962 by Tvornika Motora in Rijeka Yugoslavia. In 1995 it was replaced with a 12hp Yanmar SVE12G diesel. The centreboard was removed In 1996.
Future plans include building an aft cabin to house a small workshop and a chart table, stepping a mizzen mast on the aft cabin coachroof, adding a bridgedeck in the cockpit and increasing the ballast of the keel by adding 200 kg of steel to compensate for the loss of the centreboard.
