I think the women of Thailand is very beautiful. They move so smoothly and gracious. They seem so delicate and careful in everything they do. They are seldom or never loud, and rudeness is barely seen.

The women of Thailand are so out of the ordinary feminine.

There is regular prostitution in Thailand. This will not be discussed here. I believe the topic of ordinary prostitution is not very interesting. Such prostitution is present in almost every country in the world, and it seems to me that it is almost the same everywhere. This prostitution is also very often mentioned in books, TV-programs and so on about Thailand, and always in a grave and serious manner, and the point is always how bad the western man is when coming to Thailand for sex. This type of journalism has given Thailand a bad reputation as a sex-country.

The Thai women and men fortune hunters is on the other hand very puzzling. They may raise the question: What is prostitution? A common answer to this question is that everybody knows what prostitution is, that you can feel that in your heart if you get into such a situation. I believe this is wrong.

The girls or boys that date the western tourist in Thailand, are they prostitutes? On one extreme you have the young, nineteen year old Thai girl who does not speak English together with a fat and ugly sixty year old two-week-charter-tourist from Finland who is wearing sandals with brown socks inside them. Is that love or prostitution? Probably the latter, but who knows?

On the other hand is the good-looking young backpacker who is staying in Thailand for one year, together with a Thai girl who speaks perfectly his western language. Or maybe this beautiful boy has learned to speak Thai. Is there love between these two? Probably, but who knows? One thing is certain; most people envy and admire the young boy and his exotic experience, and do not call his girl a prostitute.

So therefore: Many people judge Thai girls (or, for that matter, the Thai boys) as prostitutes if they or their western mate is fat, ugly or old, or if one of them speaks the others language badly. Is that correct? Are not the people who passes such judgment ugly or evil?

I am not blind to the fact that something is called "open-ended prostitution". But what is the point with such a phrase? Does it do anybody any good at all? I believe nobody want to be put in such a category. And what is open-ended prostitution? Is it when money matters for love? Maybe many girls or boys, Thai or western, does not want love, but safety? Or they just want not to be alone… or maybe they just want an adventure or to have a good time? Who can tell from the outside?

The biggest problem for many of the Thai girls or boys who "go with a Farang" is not this relationship, but immoral judgments and double-standards that they experience from their fellow Thai's or "well-meaning" westerners. Especially do Thai girls have this problem, it is, for some obscure reason, a bit more accepted with a relationship between a Thai boy and a western boy or girl. Maybe this is an indicator on who passes these evil judgments… Hmmm.

Of course, there are problems related to every relationship between men and women. And the average difficulties, pains and sorrows in a Thai-western affair is probably higher than for a western-western couple. Maybe many Thai girls get abused by their western companion. But it does not help any girl or women to call her a prostitute. Such a phrase is evil and narrow-minded. Many Thai girls or boys experience a great deal of love and happiness with their western companion.

This page must not be taken as an accept of using a weaker person for your own needs without consideration for the other. Of course, as a westerner in Thailand you must use your good heart in all situations. As everybody should do at home too. But when being a westerner in Thailand be especially considerate and careful about what you do because of the fact that you may have more economical power than the Thai's. When you go to Thailand, be good and open minded, and stay home if you have any boring prejudices.
