Dragonlance - Magic
Introduction

Magic makes people stare in wonder, it makes people shiver to their bones, magic can mean great power and should not be underestimated in any ways. As soldiers fight with steel, mages fight with magic, and combined they are even more powerful.

On Krynn, people have practiced magic for a long time, though there are not many left of them. Once they were all over the place, traveling from west to east, north to south. During the 3rd. age magic was feared and not wanted. The mages were left on their own. They stayed at their 5 towers trough out Ansalon, but the kingpriest, growing in power, wanted them for himself. Those he couldnt take was either destroyed or left with a curse over it. They took with them what they could of their books and equipment and gathered at the tower of Wayreth. There they've stayed since.

The gods of Magic and their pact

There are three gods of magic, Solinari, Lunitari and Nuitari, which stand for good, neutral and evil magic. It is so that all mages must take a test to tell their alliance. All mages will act for their own intentions, but most important is their magic. No matter what Magic must be prioritized. This way most mages has come to live united, but some do not wish to follow this agreement and are considered Renegades.

Creatures of Magic

There are also other creatures and folk with magic in their blood. There's especially 2, the Irda and the Huldrefolk. Neither are known to most people. The Irda are a people banished from the continent of Ansalon. Magic is their essence and thought is all thats nessesery to use magic. The Huldrefolk is a strange people. They live in the grey Abyss. Not many has seen them because they can change their appearance to anything they want.

Magical items and artifacts

There are many magical items in the world. Some simple some very powerfull. Many of them are not know, but most are known by the mages of Krynn with their extensive libraries. Here are some that are told of in the books:

Staff of Magius

A very powerfull staff. It's true owner was Magius, the mage that fought beside Huma. Later it's been in the hands of Raistlin Majere. He got it after taking his test. There are many enhancements on it, some of them Raistlin found with his research. Among it's capabilities are the power to give light and make the carrier fly through the air. It also returns to the owner when he can't reach it. There are other capabilities not yet discovered. It has lately passed down to Raistlins nephew, Palin Majere. The staff is a quite simple wooden staff with a crystal ball on top, kept in the grip of a golden claw.

Device of time-journeying

A very special artifact of old. It's later owner was Par-Salian, the head mage of the Wayreth tower. By an incident it came into the hands of the kender Tasslehoff Burrfoot, a case which was very dangerous - because kender and gnomes are the only ones capable of changing time. One will never know what will happen to the world when such curious creatures get their hands on it. Gladfully, Tasslehoff is very wise for a kender. The item is a jeweled scepter which folds out in a special way when used. If you don't know how to use it, it will fall into pieces - and it is not easily repaired.
