Dark dwarves...darker schemes...and rising chaos.
For generations the baser clans of Thorbardin have raged against the Hylar, ancestral rulers of the vast underground realm. Now, the finest Hylar army has marched away to face the Knights of Takhisis - and the dark dwarves see their opportunity
Besieged in the Life Tree that is their fortress city, the Hylar struggle to survive. Magic and madness threaten from all sides as Theiwar, Daergar and Klar press the onslaught with bloodthirsty frenzy.
The forces of chaos join the battle against all dwarvenkind. And hopes grow dim as the Hylar face ultimate betrayal and confront the specter of Thorbardin's ultimate doom.
Chaos is making it's way to Krynn. The army of the Hylar clan sends a message home telling about it. Their thane wishes to tell the other thanes about this, but they are uncertain if it's the right thing to do, as there has been wars and treachery between many clans earlier in history. The thane orders recruitment and training for building up a defensive army if things should turn out bad. In the midst of this his wife, one of Daergar blood, leaves him and travels home. His son is sent to the Daergar thane to tell about the Chaos army, but he is hindered by the thane's wife, his mother. She holds him captured and tells the Daergar thane about the Hylar's situation. The Daergar thane summons two other clans to discuss an attack plan. But little do they know that the Hylars fortifications has become strong, and in the middle of the war the army of Chaos also joins in and break havoc on all Thorbardin and it's inhabitants. With the help of his son, which managed to escape, and the others that are left, the Thane manages to escape alive and find a site in the city of the Hylar. After studying scrolls and histories of old, he now understand there is only one hope for Thorbardin. Something which involves a magical, mythical object as well as a character of the like. As the last, real thane of Thorbardin, he destroys the army of chaos and much of Thorbardin in the process. In the turmolt some dwarves escapes to the surface, in peace for now.
The book is a great read. It's quite exiting and well written. There are not many books about the dwarves of Thorbardin. This one tells quite a lot of their kingdom and the people. I would warmly recommend this.
