I am tired...
Work is busy these day. So busy, I don't have time to write a new digression as often as I'd like to. But I enjoy it - even though I'm working my butt off, it's good fun too. It's challenging, and I'm learning a lot of new things. What more could I ask for, workwise? This week, a guy from the Netherlands is up here, to work for djuice.com (where I work), and since he doesn't know anybody here, I decided to show him around for a bit last night. Maybe that was a bad idea - on the other hand it really was a great idea. We had a lot of fun. You know, there's some people you just 'click' with instantly - and he's one of those for me.
We went to have dinner around 8 or 9 pm - and after dinner we sat at the bar chatting
till we were kicked out around 11:30 pm, I think. We had a couple of beers and a couple of shots, while we were there - and as we left, he said that he would like one more beer before he went
back to his hotel. So, of course, we went to another bar, where we talked over a beer, before we decided to call it a day. On our way up the main street, we just happened to pass another bar that
was still open - and, well the temptation was too big - so we went in there, and had another beer and a whiskey. When that bar closed down, it was around 1 pm, and we both agreed that now we really should head for home (or hotel, in his case) - but a little further down the street was another bar with live music. How could we possibly resist that? Not that we were drunk - ehrm - but after all, he's only staying till Friday morning, and he expected to be working late every night other than yesterday. So,
in we went - a beer and a whiskey, and a lot of talk. I only had a small sip of my whiskey, then he took it from me, with the memorable words, "You're beginning to get drunk." Hmmm - well, I still had my beer - and we kept talking. Then we had another beer - and at some point I suddenly realized that it was 3 pm. That's when we actually pulled ourselves together and left, with a good mind to get a bit of sleep. I was home at 3:30 am, and I did feel somewhat tired when my alarm clock went off this morning at 7 am. However, I got up, took my son to kindergarden, and was at work by 8:30 am. I spent fifteen minutes drinking extra strong coffee, but I was at work - and after my coffee
break, I actually was working too, and not really feeling tired any more. Not too bad. I started worrying though, when my new Dutch friend still hadn't showed up by 9:30 am. And when other
people started wondering why he hadn't turned up, I somewhat sheepishly admitted that it probably was my fault, and just prayed that he would arrive very, very, very soon. At 9:35 he called to say that he was on his way, but I still had to answer questions considering his whereabouts for another hour, before he finally turned up around 10:30. For some reason, I think it might be a good idea not to go out for the next two-three days. And right now, I'm just very, very tired...
