This fabolous demo was first released at Astrosyn'99 where it was presented on a CD, it won the 2nd place. The version I am now reviewing is the downscaled aminet one and as far as I can gather, the only difference is the left out cgi version and the CDDA to dbm music conversion. Inside the archive you can find a 68k cgx only version, a linux and a PowerUp version. The coder of this demo, Feelon, tells us in the readme that the 3D engine was originally made by the well known duo Noe and Elf, but since they more or less quit the demo scene, Elf gave the sources to Feelon, hence the beginning of this demo. The engine isn't all Noe and Elf anymore though, Feelon made many changes to it, but in the end Elf came back and presented a fixed executable with better timing, some scanned CD covers and a new display method called ham6small (I got 52fps on aga with it), you can find both archives on aminet. Now for the demo itself, some of the gfx is scanned, but it works well with the superb funky music. The code is very fast, even on a true ham8 18bit screen, looks really nice. The scenes are also great looking, there aren't a lot of them though, quite sad since the filesize is almost 10mb, most likely the cause of the big dbm file. I won't tell you about the plot though, it's quite deep, you should definitly go check this demonstration yourself! Now for some information about the production and it's authors. Engine code was done by Noe,Elf and Feelon, the rest of the programming by Feelon, music by Ezawir and titlepicture by Spark. To run the demo you'll need a ppc card, ppc.library, AHI, dbplayer.library and some fast ram, a stack of about 1mb (not surtain about this), cgx is optional. | |
