THE REAL "Goin' Ape" STORY

A long time ago, in a little small town in Norway, near the big and dangerous city of Oslo, lived a little bass-player with his wife and two children. The bass-player was happy with his beautiful young wife and his gorgeous two sons, but there was something missing in his life: somebody to play with! After all, he was a bass-player, and a bass-player must have a guitar-player and a drummer and a singer beside him to be really happy…….So, the little bass-player packed his big upright-bass, said goodbye to his wife and children, and went out into the world to search for other musicians who shared his passion (which of course, was rockabilly…). He walked day and night, up mountains and down hills, over big seas and long lasting deserts. But he couldn’t find any. So the little bass-player gave up, and went on back home to his family to settle down in peace, but unhappy. But then on the way home, just a couple of small miles away from his home-town, he suddenly heard a strange sound coming out from a room in a little funny Greek-lookin' house in a little village. The bass-player stopped in amazement, and he knew that this was the guitar sound that he had been looking for all his life! As fast as his little bass-feets could carry him, he ran up to the house and knocked on the door. The music stopped, and out came a very handsome good-looking Greek god, carrying an old electric guitar.

-What were you playing? Asked the little bass-player, and the good-looking Greek answered with a shy smile:

-Eeehh, just some rockabilly-licks that I am practicing……

-Do you have a band? Asked the little bass-player with big hopes in his little bass-eyes, and prayed to himself that the answer must be negative….and off course it was! The Greek guitarist invited the little bass-player into his funny looking Greek house, and the next three days they did nothing but play their favorite music together. On the fourth day, however, they started to miss a lead singer. They both knew that they needed somebody who could sing clearly in a good voice with lots of good hiccups added. So….they packed the upright-bass and the old electric guitar and went out into the world to search for one. They walked day and night, up mountains and down hills, over big seas and long lasting deserts. But they couldn’t find any. So the little bass-player and the handsome Greek guitar-player gave up, and went on back home to the little town outside of Oslo to settle down in peace, but unhappy. But on the way home, just a couple of hundred yards away from the house of the good looking Greek, they suddenly heard a very strange voice coming from the back of  a big barn, mixed with the screams of desperate cows and horses inside. They ran as fast as their little and good-looking legs could carry them, and behind the barn they found a very, very, very big, black-dressed, beautiful tall man, looking like an actor from a Hollywood-movie. He was singing old hillbilly-tunes to a crowd of really pretty young daughters of the inhabitants in the little village. And you could see the stars twinkle in the eyes of all the girls, as they stared lovingly at the beautiful tall singer in front of them. The little bass-player and the good-looking Greek waited patiently until the beautiful tall singer had finished his hillbilly-song, and then they rushed over to him and asked him if he was singing in a band.

-Weeell, well, well, I am not singing in the band I want to sing in……said the tall and beautiful singer. Then he told them that he wanted to sing rockabilly and old hillbilly-music together with a band that loved the music as much as he did. But he had never found anybody with the same enthusiasm as himself. The little bass-player and the good-looking Greek fell to their knees and thanked their god. Then they told the tall and beautiful singer all about themselves and played some songs for him with the upright-bass and the old electric guitar. The girls behind them were screaming wildly in totally joy and excitement, and the tall and beautiful singer were so glad that he immediately picked out his big gun and killed his old band. Then they were three…….and they played non-stop rockabilly-music for three days and three nights. But on the fourth day they were so tired that they couldn’t hold the rhythm steady anymore.

-We need a drummer! Said the tall and beautiful singer, who looked like a Hollywood-actor.

-Yes! Said the little bass-player and the guitarist, who looked like a Greek god. So….they packed the upright-bass and the old electric guitar and went out into the world to search for one. They walked day and night, up mountains and down hills, over big seas and long lasting deserts. But they couldn’t find any. So the little bass-player and the handsome Greek guitar-player and the beautiful tall hillbilly-singer gave up, and went on back home to the little town outside of Oslo to settle down in peace, but unhappy. On the way home, they couldn’t find any, either……So they went together to the big house of the little bass-player, to have a coop of coffee with his lovely wife and gorgeous little kids. When they satt down in the kitchen, they suddenly saw a strange coffee-pot that the lovely wife had bought while they were away.

-Oh, i wish this was a magical coffe-pot!, said  the little bass-player, with just a little bit of hope in his little voice.
-And perhaps it will bring us the best drummer in the world if we just wish for it!

And so they did. The little bass-player and the handsome Greek guitar-player and the beautiful tall hillbilly-singer held their little, greek and gorgeous arms around the coffee-pot, and suddenly the most perfect drummer in the universe turned up in a big cloud of smoke!

-You have called me, and i shall play for you forever!, said the most perfect drummer in the universe.
-I will show up whenever you need me, and fulfill all your dreams! Hallelujah, let's go Ape!!

Then the four of them picked out their instruments and started playing. And if you haven’t seen them in a good rockabilly-club somewhere around in the big, big world, I guess they’re still playing together in the little bass-players garage……
