The Lumberjack's Best Friend: Hauling home next winter's supply of firewood. Original steel rims still on.

 Installing new swaybars.

A prized find --Virgo rims, the 15" wheels originally mounted on the 240 Turbo versions. Sedan springs still in.

Sedan springs, boat trailer attached. Ground to top wheelarch distance dropped from 63 cm to 60.5 cm. This may explain why I wanted to try the wagon springs. When we leave for the summer house the trunk will be loaded and the rear seat crowded -- plus the boat. It is a case of either installing stiffer springs once or new mudflaps twice a year.

Wagon springs installed, empty trunk and gas tank. The rear end raised 35 mm to 66.5 cm measured at the wheelarch, a bit more than expected. The wife says it now looks like a Boeing coming in for landing. Oh well, she will say anything for a laugh.

Update: I finally got data for the three different spring wire diameters, and my suspicions were confirmed: These were Heavy Duty wagon springs! No wonder the rear end raised that much, not to mention the stiffness. So, the original springs are now back in place. Back to square one, except for new Sachs Advantage gas shocks all the way round. Great shocks, BTW. Same as Boge Turbo Gas, but made in Germany.

Euro-lights and wipers: This is what they look like.

A rare, original accessory -- the trunk lid handle.

Stopping for a coffee break between home and summer house, summer '04.
