The three members of STEAM have performed together for over fifteen years, backing both Norwegian and international artists.
In 1999 however, they finally came of age and set out on their own, performing a blend of original material and well-known rock, pop and blues classics.
Move your cursor over the pictures for more about Dene, Kjetil and Vidar.
Vidar
is the most charming and friendly of the three. Unfortunately these traits,
combined with boundless optimism, a naive outlook and lack of guile, has led
to many potentially lethal situations.
Luckily for the band, he is also a talented multi-instrumentalist,
handling both keyboard and bass guitar chores with consummate ease.
As with the other members of STEAM, he shares a
wealth of experience on stage, in the studio and as a composer.
Dene,
by his own admission,
is stuck in the seventies. A time when the backbeat
was king and all worshipped at the altar of Zeppelin.
Putting the band together was one way of combating the fall of live
music and the onrush of parasite DJ's.
Drumming is his main talent. He
has been playing since an early age and rates his appearance in the WHO film
QUADROPHENIA as a career high-point. Singing,
however, is a love on a par with tub-thumping and he's
pleased to be able to exercise this part of his musical anatomy with STEAM.
Kjetil
is Norway's best blues/rock guitarist. Anyone who has heard him will attest
to this, especially the others in the band.
Using Marshall gear to get that 'English' sound, a sound which has
been likened to that of thunder, but in a nice way. Kjetil adds
vocals and a songwriting ability that keeps STEAM gigs
interesting and fresh.
A veteran of many tours, his stage vibe is one of confidence and precision.
He finds, in the band, a forum for personal expression that otherwise might
get him arrested.
