A SITE THAT FOCUSES ON DARREN HAYES
Cause I liked this interview so much...;)
INTERVIEWER:
Special guest, Ex frontman Savage Garden, Darren Hayes
So how are you?
Darren:
I`m Really relaxed actually. You know, it`s the first time I have
been home since christmas, cause I came home, and ahmm..my family and I went to
Byron Bay for a couple of weeks, it was BEAUTIFUL. But I have been, you know,
stuck in the recording studio, having a ball, but working real hard ever since
then, so this is the first time I`ve been back home, and just loving it to be
honest...
INTERVIEWER:
So what is the new music like?
Darren:
What`s the new music like... It`s ahh...Look I`m really proud of it. We just got
the final mastered album two days ago, so I`m still listening to it like it`s
brand new. It`s...God, it`s really romantic, it`s kinda r & b, ahh..it`s
very pop. I mean I keep saying it`s a pop album with a capital P....
INTERVIEWER:
It`s that you though? Do you describe yourself as a romantic r&b popbloke?
Darren:
Ahh..I`m an idealist, definetly, so yeah. You know I think it`s exactly what you
would expect me to do, and a littlebit more. That`s the comment I got. I know in
the weekend some of you, the guys that worked there flew down and we had a media
listenig to the album. YOu know and I had peope like Molly and Barry, just
people in the industry come up to me and basically
say ;"Wow, that`s exactly what I thought you should have done...
INTERVIEWER:
Ah, excellent!
Darren:
So, I don`t know, I`m happy with it. I guess I have to be, right?
INTERVIEWER:
There was this photograph of you in the Sunday mail here with a bit of a beat up
story, and I didn`t even recognize you. You`ve changed!
Darren:You
know it`s so funny. Ahh...nobody does, and it has been real liberating because
that`s what I look like. And the minute I got into a band or whatever, I got
black head and I became HIM, I became thiw other person in a band, and it`s
funny, I just grew my hair out. It`s kinda light, and it`s kinda curly. Even my
mother at some point has said; " I think I liked it dark"
(laughter)
Darren:
This stuff that grows out of my head and you know I am definetly in a place in
my life where I am really comfortable in my skin, and who I am. I guess it`s all
part of that.
INTERVIEWER:
So when is the first single out? And what is it called?
Darren:
Well the first single is called Insatiable, and I think it gets delivered to the
radio in a couple of weeks. You
know it`s gonna be two commercial singles, bunch of remixes and whatever...but
they will be out before christmas. The album doesn`t actually come out until
next year.
INTERVIEWER:
Have you heard Daniel`s little project Aneiki?
Darren: I love Aneiki. I`ve heard that album when it was rough mixes, but finsihed,
ahh..probably six months ago when I was in a plane and I listened to the whole
thing from start to finish andI looked at him and just went WOW, it`s really
good.
INTERVIEWER:
It is isn`t it?
Darren:
it is really really good!
INTERVIEWER:
Darren here it comes. We have to ask you, you know this question is coming.
Darren:
Oh God...
INTERVIEWER:
You know, cause we had Daniel in here with us the day the whole thing broke and
we were talking to him, and this is what he said. (plays interview with Daniel)
So there you go, did you hear that?
Darren:
Oh I heard it! Ahmm..
INTERVIEWER:
And you would like to say what?
Darren:I
said it all. You know I told the truth. You know honestly, I think that
ahmm...he was probably shocked because it`s the first time he`d ahh...heard the
news as a reality. You have to understand that he absolutely left the band and
came to us before the album was released you know, and if you ask him this
question he would tell you thats the truth. It was in Japan, before Affirmation
was released. He left the band! And it absolutely rocked my world. But for year
and a half, for contract reasons, we weren`t allowed to talk about that. And the
interview that started all of this, that I gave, was released one week earlier
than it was ever supposed to.
INTERVIEWER:
Did you have the time to talk to him about it...
Darren:
I had talked to him about it. I had talked to him about it. Many many times. So
you knwo, without slandering eachother I have told the truth. I`m not that kind
of person, you know. And in fact I am the person in this situation who was faced
with the fact that a band was ending without me really wanting it to, and that
happened almost two years ago.
INTERVIEWER:But
you know Darren. It`s like, it made it in the first four stories of all the
network stations when it happened. It`s because in Brisbane you are like the
Brisbane band and noone wanted it to end.
Darren:
Look, you know I didn`t want it to end. You don`t understand I bawled my eyes
out. I mean Japan, And what the hell am I supposed to do? We are supposed to go
to rehearsal tomorrow. Are we not releasing this album? I mean I had to deal
with that privately for a long time without ever being able to talk about it and
that was really difficult.
INTERVIEWER:
Do you still consider yourself as a Brisbane boy?
Darren:What
do you think?
INTERVIEWER:
Well you are living in San Fransisco.
Darren:
Guys come on! I`m 30 years of age. I have a job that takes me all over the
world. You just need to look at my passport, you need to look at my...listen to
my accent. You need to look at the fact that everbody I know, and are related to
in the world lives in Brisbane. And when I come back I rarely talk about it, or
let anyone know that I`m there. Cause you know what I love the most about
Brisbane is those little places that are special to me.
INTERVIEWER:
You are coming home this weekend, and are you gonna tour with this new album of
yours?
Darren:
I wanna do it all, but you know ofcourse I am really humble about the fact that
I am a new artist to everybody. Who really know who Darren Hayes is? It is
incredible that I have been given the opportunity to have a record deal and make
this album. And I`m enourmosly proud of it. I have always worked hard, I`m gonna
work as hard as I have to, cause I wanna be singing and writing songs until I
die so...I`m gonna take it really slow, I would love to tour and do all the
things that anyone would wanna do and absolutely live, if I couldn`t perform
live on stage I would want this job.
INTERVIEWER:
I`m looking forward to this album. I really am.
Darren:
Thank you for being, I don`t know, real and giving me shit
(laughter)
Darren:
You know, I haven`t changed. I can`t wait to play it to you to, and as I said, I
can`t wait to be home, so I`ll see you guys soon!
