Cast

We are here to have fun making the picture, and having spirited talents in the show makes this possible. The cast has some of the most powerful young talents in Norway today, and I hope this will make the show all the more entertaining for the audience. It is all about turning pictures into emotions, emotions into action, action into comedy and a fun time for you guys packing the aisles in Cinema A.

Five of these impressed me in past projects and I hand picked them for this picture. Hans Fredrik, David, Hanna, Benjamin and Marius. I don’t bother auditioning loads of people when I already know who will be great in a part.

Kjetil and Narumi are new at this game, but they are proving to be real treasures in front of the camera. Classic work. And Edward is a lot of fun. I’m glad he wanted to be the dim witted Fiffus. They say you have to be clever to be stupid on screen –let’s hope that is true in Ed’s case- or the streets will never be safe again.

-Of course I am praising everybody. They all give their blood coughingly merriest in a tiny picture like this. Is that terrific, or what?

Additional cast comments

Marte Amalie Jonsrud Kaardahl

Last Sunday (August 3rd) Marte Amalie was up for her debut on celluloid. She is a terrific comedienne and we cracked up from her sassy take on Max -the troublesome tart. I was sorry that the character of Max is not featured in more than one scene. Shooting her scene was so much fun. The picture will benefit in a big way from Marte Amalie's participation. She is ding-a-ling and your girl friday. A blast and a knockout all rolled into one succulent kim-pabp. She's right up there. .and just you wait until you see that get up. I say!

Hans Fredrik Strand

In case there is any doubt, I'll clarify this matter: -yes, I am lucky to have Hans Fredrik in the picture. The camera loves him so much I sometimes have to kick its shin. His character, Kala-mit, is wearing the coolest suit. A tailor made, Belmondo-cut piece of genius. And those shoes! Mate, those shoes really take the cake and have the nerve to ask for dessert. But the wardrobe wouldn't be jack if it weren't for the screen presence of Hans Fredrik. To me his talent constitutes something which in the last decades of Norwegian filmmaking has only been a bafflingly mystifying and nervously laughable myth: a movie star. A screen actor that by simply BEING in front of the camera will have you feel everything. Here's to you, Hans Fredrik.

Narumi: a story of mini skirts & extreme badminton

Twice now the lovely Narumi, Action Anton's love interest, has performed mind boggling feats of badminton acrobatics in the spectacular landscape of Tjøme's Verdens Ende (End of the World). Through every freezing nuance of aggressive British weather she has most charmingly worn a scant mini skirt without a single word of complain about the intolerably low temperature and hostile weather. Narumi is the light of our picture: graceful, funny and beautiful. She makes the job of the director and lighting cameraman very pleasant.

Hanna Jenny as the Lady Eve

Although only appearing rather briefly Hanna Jenny will make a strong impression in her scenes. Lady Eve is infatuated by Action Anton's heroics and is likely to leap off the screen and into cinema history as one of the great screen ladies. The light loves her long, blond hair, the camera loves her screen presence and the director adores her acting. Hanna Jenny is destined for a life in the movies. She sets fire to the screen.

Kjetil -The Man From E.L.V.I.S.

Our hero, and to be more specific: my hero. Kjetil is Action Anton in the flesh, and the rushes have proven that he is one of Norway's greatest young talents. In fact, he is right up there with Hans Fredrik with his unique quality: movie star presence. I am not talking about method acting or thespian schooling. No, he has Steve McQueen quality. He has Richard Widmark's quality. He has the grace and timing of James Cagney. -And along with Kurt Russel and Bruce Campbell he is the best Elvis since The King. So film fans can look forward to future cinematic exploits: Kjetil is not about to leave the building. Thank you very much.

T. Benjamin Larsen -as in "there wouldn't be a movie without."

Some conventions are a filmmaker's best friend. They ensure that you enthral your audience any which way you wish. T. Benjamin is one of these proven conventions. If you want your audience to have a hilarious time you bring in T. Benjamin. It is simple, it is clear and if you break it: hard cheese! You'll end up with embarrassing jokes and franticly unfunny puns. Well, luckily I don't have to worry about any of these variations of ghastly cinema death, because I cast T. Benjamin Larsen. So what is his secret? How can he so effortlessly split your sides with his antics? Answering that would prove more impossible than turning Edward G. Robinson into Veronica Lake, but then again great comics never had to be explained. They apply their genius and positively murder you with fun. It is a blast working with T. Benjamin. He has comic timing in his very marrow, but he is more: T. Benjamin is a picture comedian, a rare breed which includes Fields, Chaplin, Keaton, Lloyd, Marx Brothers, Laurel & Hardy, Tati, Sellers, the Pythons, Mayall, Edmondson, Coogan and Chow Sing-chi. T. Benjamin would have been great in a Preston Sturges picture. He is wonderful in Action Anton.

Crew

Action Anton is a small picture, but it has a big international background. In devising this picture I had invaluable help from my friends and colleagues in Korea and Sweden, to whom I’ve been tied since my days at the London International Film School. The swell thing about this collaboration is that Action Anton is a co-production between Korea, Japan, Sweden and Norway. Two pairs of neighbouring countries making one film together. Neat, eh?

Action Anton would never have left the ground if it hadn’t been for Ruben’s Filmer in Oslo. This maverick film company has provided all the camera equipment.

I’ll get back to you on the sound mix, editing, music and lab work when we reach the respective stages during post production.
