Traveling there:
There are frequent flights from Papeete, 4-5 flights each week. Even more in June - August. Taxi from the airport takes 20 min. to Atuona and costs XPF.    3-4000.
 

Traveling around on the island:
Most unpawed roads are well-cared for. 

Accommodation:
I stayed at Pension Gaugin. Ok place. Clean room, nice staff, good food.

Village - which is hard to forget:
Puamau is absolute a small and very charming village.   The beach there is absolut great, put it's not a pure white sand beach.  The locals are just great. Even with my limited capabilities in speaking french, I chatted  for 30 min. with some locals.


Beaches
The beach in Taaoa is pure white sand beach.  In the same village there is a huge archaeological site above the beach, but not any stone statues.


 

Maps:
One have to buy it Papeete. They are really good. Same level of details I'm used to with the hiking maps I use here Norway

Money matters:
Just opposite the museum, one finds Socredos bank. A brand new ATM machine is even there.
