  • Bangkok

    The first city of angels

Well we went to Bangkok during our May Holiday. One week off from an extremely heavy teaching schedule ( the term "English Machine"/"Lingual Android" comes to mind) and we decided to make the most of it. We didn't get a chance to do much touristy suff as we got entangled in prime-quality Norwegian redtape.

Somewhere on Sukumvit Road, abusing the skytrain for the umpteenth time
    Traffic was always bad

This street-sweeper certainly knew how to make a profit..
    Sleeping on duty

Chinatown, the precursor(s) to CHinese world-domination..
    Enter Chinatown

We do however have one excellent place for you all to stay if you ever make it to Bangkok - As a backpacker hostel it only has the basic facilities but who needs a TV in their own room? Clean rooms, inventive breakfast, fantastic people, service and help on how not to get ripped off in Thailand and how to travel internally and externally (including bookings) Suk11 is the place to stay. Click HERE to go directly to their homepage. Where you can make a reservation, download maps of how to get there as well as maps of Bangkok and links to other places to stay in Thailand

Bangkok -aka the Venice of Asia
    Down The River

They build as everywhere else in Asia
    Bamboo-scaffolding!!!

Heaps of temples in this here city
    "Wat" Something

What we did get to see was pretty classy though. The temperature was up in the high 30's the whole time we were there and we had a couple of days with on and off torrential rain, but we wouldn't have missed it for the world. Particularly the opportunity to have all the "Western" food that we've been missing in China!!!!! Thank you Starbucks, cetainly the most idealistic caffeine pusher in the entire universe - but hey on this point we think that Bo might be slightly biased

Very Grand indeed. Possibly the worlds first disco
    The Grand Palace

Rooster-man guarding the Kings of Siam. Must be reliable..
    Eternal Gaze

Repairs - conducted with glue in a tube and a very small brush...
    Not there .... there

I think this one was trying to clean his teeth while he was modelling for the sculpture, course you don't argue with a guardian so the sculpter just worked around it I think ...
I want to look this way

The ox aren't real if you're wondering - When we got the picture's back from developing we had to check to make sure.
    Moooooo.....

We thanked all Gods that we had a cloudy day
    Gold... hmmmm

I can honestly say I wouldn't want to meet this guy in a bad mood...
    Don't go there!!

Kirsten thinks she may have to do something about this penchant that Bo has for making her pose for photographs!!!
    Less camerashy...

The Thai people seem to have the same fasciation with strange animal guardians hanging around all over the place. Ithink this one is saying No Entry though all the tourists were ignoring him.
    Say Cheese...

Strangely enough this cat didn't really like having it's sleep disturbed...
    Bugger Off!

There is plenty to see, and at some point we plan to see more :)

This cat was having the time of his life up their guarded by big guard things!
    Can't catch me...

Cat's seemed to have the run of the Grand Palace everytime we turned around there they were climbing walking or sitting all over the place.
    I can't reach...

We believe that Buddhist monks may have a slight aversion to photographs as there were three of them walking along in the background of this picture when we took it.... hhmmmm
    More tourists!
