So Bec and Trav have decided that they don't really want to continue being parents to teenagers, and they want to get out of Summer Bay and enjoy just being by themselves for a while. It's come as a bit of a surprise to many and to Justine probably most of all!
When Bec and Trav answer an advertisement to work on a tall ship, and discover that the ship will set sail just as Justine's case goes to trial, Jus is deeply hurt. Even when they say they'll cancel all their plans to stay with her, she tells them that she doesn't care what they do.
Joel (David Woodley) steps in and reminds Justine that Rebecca and Travis gave up a lot to look after her when Pippa left, but that doesn't make Justine feel any better...
Will Justine ever forgive them or will Rebecca and Travis leave Summer Bay with bad karma?
Rebecca and Travis are setting sail for a rosy future…
They've been Summer Bay's golden couple young, in love and happily married (well, most of the time!). Travis (Nic Testoni) and Rebecca (Belinda Emmett) found themselves in Summer Bay, and then found each other now they're off to discover the rest of the world!
Bec and Trav have had a rather unusual married life so far they'd barely said 'I do' before finding themselves foster parents to Sam (Ryan Clark), Justine (Bree Desborough) and Tiegan when Pippa left the Bay. Apart from that, they've had their jobs Travis in charge of a whale-watching boat and Rebecca teaching music at the local high school. So they've never really had a chance to just enjoy each other's company… until now!
With Justine's manslaughter trial looming, life has been tough at the caravan park, especially when Justine thought that Bec didn't believe in her. It all became a bit much for Rebecca and Travis, and they started to think that maybe they wanted to be carefree for a while…
That's when they spotted an ad for two teachers to live and work on a Tall Ship, sailing around the world. It sounded too good to be true, but they got the jobs… and now the time has come to set sail!
So Rebecca and Travis board the ship, waved off by Marilyn, Fisher, Natalie and Joel. It's a sad time for all and now Nat and Joel are in charge of the caravan park! but everyone wishes them the best… happy sailing!
WE'RE VERY SAD TO BE LOSING BELINDA AND NIC, BUT WISH THEM ALL THE VERY BEST. YOU CAN STILL SEE BELINDA ON SCREEN ON ALL TIME GREATEST BLOOPERS, SUNDAYS AT 7.00 P.M.
There's no doubt that Belinda Emmett is one of Home and Away's most popular stars. And it's not hard to understand why Belinda is gorgeous, bright, bubbly and truly one of the nicest gals you could ever meet! Everyone loves Belinda, and that's probably because she puts everyone around her at ease with her warm, friendly personality.
The last year has been a hard one for Belinda, as she first discovered she had breast cancer and then went through treatment for her illness. She knows that she received heaps of email from fans during that time, and had a special message for all those people:
'Thank for all the warm wishes and for all the support. It definitely contributed to a successful outcome, because it was my little cheer squad cheering me on and it's made such a difference and I'm eternally grateful, so thank you all so very, very much. And I'm very, very well and I feel a hundred percent and I've just had a check-up and everything's fine.'
Which is the best news we could hope to hear! But in the process of getting better, Belinda seems to have been made into the media's favourite spokesperson about breast cancer. How does she feel about that?
'It's hard, because I've sort of been made a spokesperson, which I don't really want because up until [a few] months ago I knew nothing about cancer, and I'm still very naive… Now I've got first-hand knowledge of it but still I don't feel as though I have enough knowledge to actually go out there and speak about it, but I realise that people are going to make me a bit of a role model I suppose and if that helps them, well then, that's great because I was really lucky in a lot of ways, but I do honestly believe that in a lot of ways your mind can do incredible things and you can kind of will yourself well if you want to. Not in every case, but I definitely believe that a positive mind really helped me a lot.
'And so I guess, if people can sort of see that, anyone who… has been diagnosed and can say, "Well, she got through it, and if she can do it, I can do it", then that's kind of worthwhile, you know, and that makes you feel as if it wasn't in vain, and then I don't mind people looking on me as a role model, if it's going to help them out, because I know with me it was Olivia Newton-John I sort of looked at her and thought, you know, she got through it and she's fine, look at her, she still looks fine. She's one hundred per cent and better than ever and she was a big inspiration for me and she was someone that I saw had been through it and got to the other end relatively unscathed. So, you know, hopefully that's what I can contribute.'
Belinda certainly has contributed this, and more. She's a definite inspiration to cancer sufferers of any age, with the positive and always cheerful way she has dealt with her illness and marched determinedly on with her life. It's unfortunate she had to go through a bad experience to get to that point, but she has something good to say about that too.
'There's a lot of positives that have come from it… spiritually getting really deep and meaningful here it's changed my life a lot and I feel a lot more at peace… So even though it's horrible, it's a pretty crappy thing to have happen to you at 24, it's in a lot of ways something that I will take with me for the rest of my life and I feel better for it, so I think it was meant to happen, you know, it was just one of those things. And also, I feel like I'm actually doing some good, you know, rather than just sort of... in this industry you become so self-absorbed, you just do everything for your own personal gain, so it's nice to be able to do something where you know it's going to help other people.'
It's hard to believe that anyone could be this upbeat after going through the same ordeal, but that's Belinda for you! It seems like nothing could ever get her down or destroy her strength and vibrancy.
