Boring? This daredevil girl racing round the track at umpteen miles per hour? Surely not!
As Home and Away actress Belinda Emmett gets behind the wheel at this go-karting track in Sydney with co-star en Unwin, dull is certainly the last word that springs to mind. However, on screen this fortnight, Belinda’s character Rebecca is devastated when long-time love Travis Nash brands her boring! Rebecca understandably takes offence at Travis’s verdict and it looks like there could be a storm brewing for Summer Bay’s most loving couple.

But off screen Belinda looked like she didn’t have a care in the world as she raced the go-kart track. There was no need for a stunt double for the beautiful actress – unlike when she tinkles the piano as Rebecca Fisher.“I am a musician, but I’m primarily a singer,” explains Belinda. “I can play basic chords and stuff on the piano, but for the really tricky bits I have to get someone in to fake it. ”That’s when 13-year-old Jem Harding steps onto the Home and Away set to demonstrate his musical talent. “Jem’s got lovely hands,” smiles Belinda.

“He puts all my rings and watch on so it looks like it’s me playing. The only problem is that since I’ve been on the show, he and his hands have grown so much that he’s having trouble getting my rings on!”
Adventurous Belinda is no stranger to the thrills and spills of sports like go-karting – she recently abseiled down a cliff for the Aussie TV show Who Dares Wins. Meanwhile, she’s not the only Summer Bayer who relished a bit of danger. Ben Unwin was also over the moon to have a go at speeding round the track. Ben, who plays Summer Bay’s single dad Jesse McGregor, is a big fan of the world of motoring. His love of cares goes back years, although his passion isn’t quite as strong since he started on the soap. “I’m starting to get over all that,” he laughs. “My first care was an HR Holden (a classic make of Aussie car). It was dodgy – I’m sure someone ripped me off when I bought that!” But dodgy or not, it was Ben’s pride and joy and he made the car all his own. “It was green and white when I bought it,” he recalls with a smile. “But I spray-painted it with black paint as a personal statement! I had to sell it in the end, as it was full of rust. I sold it for about five bucks!”

Despite thoroughly enjoying his go-karting experience, Ben admits that his motoring tastes are a little more mundane these days. “I drive a boring car now,” he sighs. “Who knows, though – maybe now I’m on Home and Away I can save up for something a bit more wicked!”
