She got treatment while she was filming Home and Away, and she never tried to hide her sickness for the other actors. But that wouldn`t say that she wanted everybody else to know. But for one of Australia`s biggest actresses, it had to come, and one day all the news about her cancer were at the front of the papers and magazines, and it was then Belinda decided to let everyone know about her sickness. And maybe that would help a lot of other young girls, she thought.
She got her diagnose right after her 24th birthday, and it was a difficult time. She decided to bring a TV-team into the hospital. All the difficult days were in full public and everybody in Australia could share the feelings, the tears and news with her.
Belinda was lucky. Her treatment succeeded and she survived. But that did something to her, and she wanted everybody, and especially young girls know that it isn`t just the older group of women who get breast cancer.
Together with many different singers, she made a CD named Hope. All the artists had had something to do with cancer, and at the 26th of October, which is the National Breast Cancer Awareness Day, they decided to put the out the CD out for sale. Belinda has a special track on that CD, where she sings Off the Wall.
After Belinda had her diagnose she said: "I refused to give in to depression ... you face the terrifying prospect of dying young, but I felt strong ... I really did. Strong and positive, which surprised even me. I honestly believe a positive mind can do anything. I thought, whatever it is, I'll deal with it. I never let myself think what have I got to do before I die."
