I was thinking about a dear friend of mine who has cancer. I had started to grow my hair back, and I had started to try and get myself out of this dark place. And the steroids were making me put on a lot of weight and lose weight and all these things I’ve seen. And then this dear friend, Belinda Emmett, wasn’t feeling the best, and I really wanted to write a song for her. And as a song, it says, ‘Be strong. Are you swimming upstream? I know what you are thinking, but I know you can make it, When you are in your darkest hour and all the lights just fade away, hang on and be strong.’ I just wanted to write something - I didn’t even know if it would make the album - but I just wanted to write a song for her. It just so happened that it was a song that a lot of people said really touched them. -
