ADF -Cosmopolite -Oslo -Norway -23.October 1999
Well, I travelled 10 hours with bus to get to Oslo and see them play. Took me a while to find the venue, as I haven't been much in Oslo. Anyway, the doors were supposed to open at 20:00, so I was there round 19:00, as the only one. Well, the clock got 20:00, 20:15, 20:30 and still they wouldn't let us in. Then we got to know that because of a delay of their equipment on the airport, they had to do the soundcheck now, so we wouldn't get in before at least 21:00. I just stood there listening to the soundcheck, talking with the guards and other people that came and went. It was fucking cold as well, at least when you've been standing there for about 2 hours. But then finally at about 21:20 they'd finished the soundcheck, and could let us in. I was the first in the line, and therefore was the first to get in! I went and bought a black and white longsleeved ADF t-shirt and took all the flyers and cards that they had as well. So I went in, where Pandit G stood DJ-ing. I just stood there in the front waiting, whilst everyone else went to the bar or sat down. Pandit played some wicked tunes. People started coming. We were really close to the stage, about 10cm away, could touch the stage. And finally at about 23:15 they came dancing onto the stage. It was so unreal to finally see them again. This was what I'd been waiting for for over a year. And now they were here again. Yeah! They started of with "Charge". It all just exploded in lights and sound. Massive! People went crazy. "Naxalite" my favourite song was fantastic, and so was "New Way New Life", and all the rest! They all came out dancing on "Taa Deem". Wicked! Many witty comments during the gig as well, about MTV, Deedar's shoes etc. I got to hear one new song as well "Officer XX" about the Stephen Lawrence case, although I didn't get the lyrics. And the brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrah on Buzzin' wow! Deedar handed out postcards that you could send to the parole board before "Free Satpal Ram". Then they went out. And came on playing "Judgement" which I've heard before but then without lyrics, I think it was called "Burn" then. So came "Riddim I like", which is the riddim I Like yeah! They had some technical problems during the gig, and so also before "Assassin" so Chandra just started playing some other stuff, and Deedar rapping. Very cool! And then at last they'd fixed the problems, and "Assassin" came, rawer then ever before. "Scaling New Heights", WOW!, maybe the greatest song that night. A long instrumental song. Chandra just sat on the floor playing. Then came the last song "Rebel Warrior". Unfortunately. It didn't help how much we clapped and yelled "we want more", it was definitely over... Oh, and Pandit made us sing "Happy Birthday" for the engineer or someone. Then Deedar said he was only joking and we shouldn't listen to Pandit, as he was always joking around. Well I got the setlist after the gig. Then Deedar came out, and I went over and got him to sign the setlist, and talked some with him. So Sun-J and Dr Das came out too. They signed my setlist as well. Dr Das recognised my name. "Oh it's you!". He said he liked my site, and then we talked a while. I had to go back to my hotel as I had to get up at 06:00 next morning to reach my train for Trondheim and ADF on Sunday.
Cheers to Kad-ar/ir who I met in Oslo.
