Many devotees from the West dislike strongly Sathya Sai Baba's acceptance of major show and extravagance. It originally appealed greatly to Spiritual Westerners were originally attracted to Sai Baba largely in the belief that his life was that of a sannyasin, living without material luxuries and in an eco-friendly, non-consumerist way. His doctrine was very markedly against waste of money, time, energy and food (his ‘Ceiling on Desires’ recommendation). Yet in practice there is more and more empty show and wasteful extravaganza.
